Tube Guide
The London Underground is usually the fastest way to cross central London. Most tourist journeys stay in Zones 1-2, while Heathrow is in Zone 6 and many hotels sit between Zones 1-3.
Use the same contactless card or phone for every journey so daily and weekly caps work correctly.
Oyster cards still work well, but contactless is simpler for most visitors with a supported bank card.
Peak fares normally apply Monday-Friday during morning and evening commute windows; off-peak travel is cheaper and calmer.
Stand on the right on escalators, walk on the left, and let passengers off before boarding.
The Elizabeth line is excellent for Heathrow, Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Liverpool Street, and Canary Wharf.
